Due to the OPBF featherweight champion, Miyata Ichirō having broken fists after a match, an interim OPBF featherweight title match was scheduled during Miyata's absence between Banai, who was ranked third, and Randy Boy Junior, who was the second OPBF ranker since the first OPBF ranker, Makunouchi Ippo, refused to take part. Banai was defeated by Randy, causing the latter be declared the interim OPBF champion.
