- Title Page Character(s): Alexander Volg Zangief
Summary[]
At the Monthly Boxing Fan, after seeing the magazine issue about Volg becoming the IBF junior lightweight world champion, Fujii hears from Mari about how Volg has a fondness of Japan, which Fujii wonders why, as he did not have a good time when he was there. A staff member notes how they liked the question section, where Volg was asked if he had anything to say to his rivals. In the interview, Volg answered that he hopes that he doesn't fight them again since he has no idea if he would survive. Fujii mentions how Japan has two boxers that beat the new IBF junior lightweight champion, so the country is nothing to scoff at. The Monthly Boxing Fan staff discuss Ippo's relinquishment of the JBC featherweight title and his upcoming match against the world second ranker Alfredo González, which, if he wins, he will be eligible to challenge the world champion. Fujii comments how he expected nothing less from Kamogawa choosing Alfredo as a warm-up. Mari believes it will not be an easy match. Fujii thinks that since Ippo is moving to the world, there will be a lot of activity in his weight class, with Sendō and Miyata being top ten world rankers, Mashiba, who is wanting a world title match possibly moving to the next level, and how the JBC featherweight title is now open for boxers like the genius, Itagaki to take. At the Makunouchi Fishing Boat, Ippo, while working with Itagaki, informs the customers who call him "champ" that he is not the Japanese champion anymore since he relinquished the belt. Itagaki tells them that he will be itagaking the belt soon, and Ippo will be heading for the world. The customers are excited for the new world champion, but Ippo tells them that to not get carried away. Miyazaki tells Hiroko that Ippo will go from being the best in Japan to being the best in the world. Hiroko knows that Ippo is doing his best, but notes that she hasn't seen any of his matches. The customers ask if she would go to his world title match, as they plan on going if he gets there. Hiroko, however, doesn't care, only caring that he stays healthy. Ippo delivers fresh fish to Kumi. As Ippo was about to leave, Kumi mentions that her cooking skills are limited, wanting his help. Ippo wants to know her brother's location. After hearing that he isn't home, Ippo offers to teach her some simple dishes. In the kitchen, Ippo, having a lot of yellow bream, informs Kumi that it goes good with with soup or sashimi, or serve it with a bit of kelp broth. He shows her to use the back of the knife to cut the scales off. As she cuts the scales, one of them hits Ipo's face. She apologises and tries to touch Ippo's face as her face drew closer to his before stopping herself. As she cuts the fish, scales continue to fly at Ippo's face and they begin laughing. All of a sudden, Mashiba draws near.
Trivia[]
- On the cover of the Monthly Boxing Fan issue covering Volg's IBF title victory, it mentions that "Fūjī" (フージー) won the heavyweight title.
