A Mexican Left is Round 1033 of Jōji Morikawa's Hajime no Ippo manga series.
Details[]
- Title Page Character(s): Ippo Makunouchi, Alfredo González
Summary[]
Alfredo sends out a left jab, which grazes Ippo's head. Ippo is shocked by how far the left was sent out, and how it quickly it retracted despite the long distance, believing it to be similar to Sawamura's left. Ippo knows that if he waits until he sees the left coming, he won't be able to close in, so he plans to weave his head while going towards Alfredo slowly. As Ippo starts to approach Alfredo, he blocks a left jab after thinking that he shouldn't be able to hit him from that far as he didn't before. Ippo notices that when Alfredo is about to throw a left, he steps in and out a lot to prevent him from knowing when to dive in. Kamogawa sees that Alfredo is already getting a complicated strategy out, messing with Ippo's sense of range. Yagi notes how Ippo has to keep in mind Alfredo's left and his footwork, making it a rough start. Kamogawa knows Ippo isn't good at complex tactics, but he is prepared to cope with them. Ippo realises after watching Volg's world title match that the world stage isn't about fighting hard, it is a place for high level exchanges of technical skill, but since he isn't capable of that, he wonders what he can do. He decides what he can do is steadily push forward and keep weaving his head, acting like Alfredo can hit him from anywhere. Ippo remembers fighting against Sawamura and Gedo's lefts, and how he had to press forward. Ippo suddenly dashes towards Alfredo, who begins throwing a left jab.
