Summary[]
While training on his weaving and punching side-to-side for his Dempsey Roll, Ippo unintentionally rises up and punches, which surprises himself as he never thought that it was possible to do so. Ippo runs to the Kamogawa gym while thinking about him weaving side-to-side and then down and up. When he goes inside the gym, he sees Aoki doing mitt practice with Fujii. Fujii claims that he came to the gym for a story, and then decided to try catching Aoki, Kimura, and Itagaki's punches, as he is good at catching punches since he was an out-boxer before. Fujii reveals how he was a bad boxer who was called the "Eternal #2" at a city tournament. He adds how he ran into a prodigy at the tournament's finals, and thought that if he could beat him, he would turn to pro boxing, however, he lost. Fujii notes that Aoki's punches are just like the ones the prodigy he faced had. Fujii wants to catch Ippo's punches next. When Ippo gets into the ring and punches Fujii's mitts, Fujii sees how heavy Ippo's punches are. A punch causes one of Fujii's mitts to fly off his hand. Fujii asks to see Ippo's fist without gloves on, and to make a fist. Fujii sees Ippo's right fist, and tells Ippo and his gym mates that the secret to Ippo's knockouts is in his fists.
