Shape of a Fist is Round 1131 of Jōji Morikawa's Hajime no Ippo manga series.
Details[]
- Title Page Character(s): Shinoda, Minoru Fujii
Summary[]
Fujii explains that the secret is unique to Ippo, as the shape of his fists are big, hard, and flat like a rectangle, making the force more spread out. Fujii notes how the type of hand one has is something they are born with, and Ippo was born with the right hands for the job. Fujii asks Ippo if he does any special conditioning for his fists since the hardness of his fists aren't normal. Ippo claims he punches logs light enough to not injure himself. Fujii comments how that is someone some karate practitioners do and sees why his fists don't break despite how powerful they are as his bones are strong. Aoki and Kimura compares Ippo's fists as bricks, scolding him for hitting them with bricks. Fujii predicts that Takamura and Sendō must have similar qualities, by looking at how they blow their opponent's guard away. Fujii notes how Ippo is also short, so his punches come from an angle, and his strong lower body acts as a powerful launchpad that adds a natural torque to his punches. Kimura notices how his fist is halfway between Ippo and Itagaki's fists, believing it to be the standard shape. Itagaki wishes to ask a question.
