Summary[]
Waiting for Ippo to return from the boat, Taihei and Kintarō argue over who should talk to Kumi, as they are scared of her personality. Kintarō tells Kumi that an important person named "Jirō Tamiya" visited Ippo. When Kumi learns that the person was the OPBF champion, she realises they are talking about Miyata. She tells them if it happens again, to tell her in detail. Ippo then returns from the boat. That night, while walking to Kōrakuen Hall, Ippo explains to Taihei and Kintarō that the reason Kumi is irritated is because her brother, Mashiba has a match tonight. While walking to the arena, Mashiba comes across Ippo. Ippo, who learned that Mashiba specifically picked his opponent, tells Mashiba that his opponent, Iga, is strong. Mashiba responds by pushing Ippo with his shoulder. With that, Ippo realises Mashiba was telling him that that was the reason why he picked him. Inside, Ippo introduces his two students to the Kōrakuen Hall and explains the basics of working up to being an 8-rounder. Taihei remembers the venue, being there when Aoki was being made into a laughing stock. However, Ippo tells him that Aoki was a true pro, as he got the crowd riled up. Ippo then tells Taihei to focus on the main event, as the person who is fighting, is his older brother's objective, Iga. Aoki, who is in the Kōrakuen Hall, wishes that Iga loses in order for him to not get a world ranking. When Kimura tells him that Mashiba will "execute" him, Aoki asks Kimura if he knew what Mashiba had in mind when he issued the challenge.
Trivia[]
- According to the date on the match poster (October 20, 1998), it has been about 9 months since Ippo Makunouchi had lost to Antonio Guevara.
- Kintarō Kaneda mistakes Ichirō Miyata's name as "Jirō Tamiya" (田宮二郎), which is a play on Miyata's name. The "田宮" in "Tamiya" is "宮田" "Miyata" in reverse, while the "二郎" in "Jirō" is similar to "一郎" in "Ichirō", as "一' means "one,' and "二" means "two," while "郎" "rō" is in both "Jirō" and "Ichirō."
