Summary

Ippo has Taihei and Kintarō do six sets of running 800 meters in three minutes with one minute breaks. His students ask him why he requests six sets instead of four as they will be debuting as four-rounders, which he answers that there is nothing wrong with doing extra as long as they do not go overboard. After clearing six sets, Taihei and Kintarō question Ippo as to why he wants them to do another set. Ippo tells them that they did not make it in time on the fifth and sixth set, so they will do extra. They then continue to do after getting talked into it when they protested against it. Aoki, Kimura, and Itagaki watch from a distance, with Itagaki and Kimura commenting on how impressive it is that Taihei and Kintarō are keeping up with Ippo. Kimura recalls that the only people that did not quit after training with Ippo were Itagaki and Geromichi, with the latter being completely new to boxing at the time, just like Ippo's students. Kimura asks for Aoki's thoughts as Taihei's older brother, which Aoki simply states that Taihei's stamina has grown as much as his hair. Kimura stops Itagaki's cheerful reply, telling him that Aoki is worried about his little brother due to boxing's competitive nature where damage and injuries tend to pile up. Aoki says that he had no problem leaving Ippo in charge due to him knowing about injuries and damage like no one else. Aoki then gets angered when he hears Kimura and Itagaki talking about how Taihei admires the Ippo now, feeling bad for the older brother. Kimura and Itagaki notices how the three are now saying "one", wondering if it is a code. Later at the Kamogawa gym, Ippo tells Aoki, Kimura, and Itagaki that it is not a code, but a number, showing them a number sheet with basic techniques next to them. Shinoda enters the room and looks at the sheet, revealing that it is a numbering system.
