Kumi tells Ippo that she wants to go to the ocean for a swim as she has a new swimsuit, asking him if he wants to take her there. Ippo happily agrees, believing that once Mashiba becomes world champion, there will a lot of things they will have to do. At the Tanaka Transportation, as Mashiba leaves his job, Tanaka informs him that they put up posters for his world title match against Rosario, noting that they have high hopes for him and people are already asking to buy tickets. At the Tōhō gym, Fujii and the Tōhō coach watch Mashiba hit the sandbag as the former notices Mashiba is standing close to the bag while punching it, wondering if it is an anti-Rosario strategy. The coach claims to not have given Mashiba any specific instructions, but Mashiba has made assumptions. The coach adds that Mashiba is a completely different person now: his recklessness is gone and is giving it his genuine all for victory, which he believes is a huge transformation for him. He adds that Mashiba's training and strength isn't just to fight his old self, as he has his opponent in mind, as well as everyone who has supported him, which he knows that Mashiba himself won't say it, but he feels he is more aware of them now. He adds that Mashiba is different from when he fought on hatred before, so now he feels he can send Mashiba out with pride as a first-class challenger. When Mashiba goes home, he remembers that Kumi is at her job still working night shift, thinking that he has to let her not worry and let her go out on her own. Mashiba then recalls his past, where he was taken to the Uma Police Station after getting into a fight with multiple people at his high school. After being told to go home, Mashiba was told by his parents that if he keeps this up, he won't be able to live in society, and if something happens to them, they won't know what will happen with Kumi as he would be the only one left. Mashiba believed that he can't help it, as when he snaps, it feels like another being comes out and he loses it, wondering if he is the only one like that. After Mashiba and Kumi's parents passed away in a car accident, Mashiba began to take care of Kumi. One night while walking on the sidewalk, Mashiba got attacked by a small group of people, trying to not let the being come out and take over him, however, it begins to come out.
