Summary[]
Ozuma prepares to leave for Nerima alone, since his coach stays to tend to the gym. As he leaves, the gym members give him extra money and words of encouragement.
After arriving in Nerima, he stays at the Nerima Boxing Club. Its members are impressed with his power, but Hiroyuki Ōta, who also entered the tournament, is annoyed and decides to spar with Ozuma, who believes it to be a friendly gesture. Ōta violently rushes him, but Ozuma refuses to fight back until Ōta puts headgear on. He laughs at Ozuma's skills and Ozuma, remembering what his friends told him, sends Ōta to the hospital with a single hook.
Kamogawa and Yagi discuss how Ozuma hospitalised Ōta. Realising that Ippo's head on style will not work against Ozuma, Kamogawa has him spar with Takamura, telling him all he has to do is dodge the hook and land a single blow. Takamura instantly knocks Ippo down with a hook, and Kamogawa tells Ippo that if he were to dodge the hook, he would have a clear shot at Ozuma's body.
After days of failed attempts, Ippo, on his way home, comes across a children's park with hanging bars he decides to use to train dodging, but hits his head on the second bar.
Over the next days, Ippo continues to spar together with Takamura and try the exercise at the playground. The day before the match, Ippo is finally able to dodge one of Takamura's hooks, which greatly satisfies Kamogawa.
