A week away from the match, Ippo and Kamogawa have already developed a counter-strategy for the Hien that consists of blocking with the right arm, given the fact that no matter what angle it takes, it will always aim for the head. While playing video games with his coach's daughter; Tsugumi Kinoshita, Sanada begins to reflect on how he he can not cure the worries of the patients's families, and needs to become stronger. He remembers how despite being the champion, he has never been tested and believes that Ippo is the right person to finally prove how strong he is. Nekota invites Kamogawa to have a drink at Sugar Ray, but does not tell him that he also invited Dankichi. Upon seeing each other they decide to leave at first, but a crying Nekota convinces them to stay. They have a heated discussion about their past, but Nekota enforces a temporary truce until the day their students fight in the ring. Dankichi confesses that the reason he came back to Japan was in order to raise a fighter from his country who would one day be able to defeat the best fighter in the world; Ricardo. He says that it is fate that Sanada will ascend by defeating Ippo, a challenge Kamogawa gladly accepts.
