Summary[]

Despite considerable physical damage, it is psychological impact what leaves Miyata in shock and unable to stand up after being hit. With people cheering for him to continue, he repeatedly asks himself what went wrong, and concludes he misplaced his hand. He gets up at the count of six and the fight continues with Arnie on the offensive. Takamura Mamoru and Miyata's father are the only two people who notice that it was not a mistake by Miyata, but a tactic from Gregory, who was baiting Miyata into launching his counter, so he would fall victim to the Bloody Cross. Miyata is still focused and can predict all the incoming punches, so when the left approaches again, he attempts another counter. As Miyata's arm travels a straight path over Gregory's arm and to his face, the champion uses his left arm under Miyata's, to bend the angle of the counter and nullify it. With his weapon disabled, Miyata falls victim to a right uppercut that sends him back, then a left hook and a right straight, followed by a barrage of punches that send him bloodied to the floor. Takamura tells Ippo to prepare himself to avenge Miyata, but the latter replies that the current fight is not yet over. Extremely frustrated, Miyata punches the canvas repeatedly, much to Mr. Sakaguchi's pleasure. The downed boxer becomes angry at the fact that they sealed his number one weapon, and feels more pain due to his injured pride, than to his physical damage.
