Summary[]
With the Motionless jabs affecting his legs already, Ippo has no option but to walk directly into the attacks, while blocking in order to get within striking range. As he slowly walks forward, he receives the jabs, but his solid guard protects well against them. Once inside, Ippo begins weaving and starts performing his Dempsey Roll. Ricardo then effortlessly jabs Ippo's face over and over again, despite the fact that he is weaving his head at a high speed. With the Dempsey roll stopped, Ricardo walks away and tells Bill that he does not wish to shame the champion anymore and wants to end the spar. Kamogawa agrees, and tries to get Ippo out of the ring, but the boxer is in a state of unconsciousness and tries to hit Ricardo before being stopped by his coach. As soon as he wakes up, Ippo thanked Ricardo and leaves the gym. Kamogawa states that it could not be helped since he was not yet up to the challenge, to which Ippo replies that he can not even put in word how far apart their levels are. When he arrives home, Ippo is asked by his mother what happened to his face. When he takes a look in the mirror, he can see the effect "the world's strongest left" has on his face. After being so confident about Date's upcoming victory, Ippo begins to have doubts as he can not see Ricardo losing.
