Summary[]
After being humiliated by Ricardo, Ippo is told that he is the shame of the nation by Takamura, who forces him to go over to Date and apologise for putting pressure on him. When Ippo arrives at the Nakadai gym, he sees Date in a sparring match against non other than Miyata. The entirety of the match is a demonstration of Date's skills, as the helpless OPBF champion has no answer to the veteran's moves. Date not only dodges but attacks at the same time, and even beats Miyata in what he is supposed to be better at. Miyata encounters Ippo on his way out, and they begin talking. With both of them being beaten by both participants of the upcoming title match, they reflect on how despite being OPBF and JBC champions, they are still nothing compared to the world level. At the press conference before the fight, Date thanks Ricardo for bringing the belt all the way from Mexico to Japan just for him. Ricardo simply tells him to not expect too much from it, and they are told to shake hands for the pictures. They stand up and face each other, but the tension is clearly visible.
