Summary[]
Still in disbelief about Yamada's physical change, the one who is shocked the most is Aoki, who reveals he will be the opening act for two of his kōhai. On the other hand, Ippo is depressed at the fact that his opponent turned out to be Yamada. Ippo, who takes the tape of Yamada's fights, is watching and analysing them at his house. After watching the video, Ippo remembers the moments he spent with Yamada, and how strong he became since the last time they met. He asks himself if he will be able to hit him, and wonders why Yamada would challenge him. Meanwhile, after training, before Yamada leaves, his coach approaches him and says how talented he thinks he is, and how much potential he has. He then expresses his disliking at the idea of him facing Ippo. He asks why having so many opponents, he still wants to fight a person whose strength he know first hand, and who ended the career of another fighter with potential. Yamada responds that it is because he knows him that he will be able to defeat him, and that he has wanted nothing more in the past years than to face the man he admired.
