Before making his way to the ring, Yamada remembers what Ippo once told him about the marks on the wall, and begins punching them the get in the right mood. He soon loses control and punches the wall at full strength repeatedly until he is stopped by Hachinohe Coach, who tells him that even if he does not care about the result, he should aim for the belt.
Yamada then makes his entrance to the cheers of his friends who have come to show support. Next it is the turn of the champion, who is received by the hall with a round of applause. When Ippo and Yamada face in the ring, the audience begins making predictions, and wonder if their past relationship will affect their performances.
Before the bell rings, both fighters agree with their respective trainers that the best option is to go at full power from the very beginning and waste no time in ending the match.
When the bell rings, it is Ippo who catches his opponent faster, and does so with a straight. He then follows with a left and keeps Yamada on the ropes where he delivers a combination.
