Summary

Ippo questions why Kamogawa orders him to forget about the Dempsey Roll. Kamogawa explains that it is light, as the increased speed decreased its power. Kamogawa continues, telling Ippo that his destructive power is his greatest weapon, he then tells him to increase both speed and power. Later that night, Kamogawa talks to Yagi and tries to hide the fact that he is happy about Ippo thinking of improving the Dempsey Roll himself, something he wanted to do also. Kamogawa asks why do boxers not show off the powerful technique of the Dempsey Roll like Jack Dempsey and Fuji Takeshi did. Yagi gives one reason, being that most fighter do not have the natural build to use it. Kamogawa explains another reason being a simple matter of Janken, with Ippo as fist, Miyata as paper. Kamogawa states that the weakness is counters. Kamogawa believes Ippo is going against the currents of the modern boxing world, and that they are sending a challenge to the modern boxing world. At the Kawahara gym, Miyata has a conversation with his father that the Dempsey Roll is weak to counters, as it is a simple left-right motion. His father concludes that it must be the reason Kamogawa declined their request to fight Ippo. Miyata believes that Ippo will change the Dempsey Roll. Ippo then began his harder training to increase both speed and power. Aoki, Kimura, and Itagaki notices how Ippo is mostly doing basic training. Takamura comments that it is to strengthen the big toe needed to fully utilise rotation and power. Takamura believes Ippo to be looking nowhere but forward, as a challenger.
