Summary

Ippo is surprised to see Volg, as he thought that he was still in Russia. Volg reveals that he is making a comeback to boxing in the United States of America and has come to pick up his boxing gloves he gave Ippo before. Ippo claims he still has them and notices that Volg's clothes are dirty, which Volg tells him that it is due to sleeping under a bridge while trying to find Ippo. Ippo offers Volg to stay at his house his entire stay at Japan. Volg accepts and follows Ippo to his home. At the Coffee Dengeki, Itagaki explains to Aoki and Kimura how the Dempsey Roll uses the blind spot as a way to cause fear, as the opponent can't see where the punches are coming from and their eyes can't keep up with Ippo when he weaves in close range, causing their reaction to dull. When Kimura questions Itagaki about overcoming the fear, Itagaki holds a spoon close to Kimura's eyes horizontally, pointing out how he can't see the ends of the spoon. However, when Itagaki moves it away from Kimura's eyes, he notes that Kimura can now see the ends of the spoon. Kimura realises what he means: if he steps back from Ippo as he does the Dempsey Roll, he will see the whole motion and the punches won't come from any blind spot, making him able to counter it like any other regular hooks. The three are sure that Sawamura realises it as well, which is why the challenger has called it a clumsy technique. They decide that Kimura will be the one to help Ippo by countering his Dempsey Roll. At Ippo's home, Ippo shows Volg his title match against Sendō and his title defence against Shimabukuro. Volg becomes focused with a serious expression after watching, and is amazed about the Dempsey Roll, thinking of how he would defend against it. He tells Ippo that he would aim for a counter, as the rhythm he moves in would make it easy. Ippo is surprised, and thinks that Volg has the guts and skill to pull off a counter against the technique. Hiroko arrives to the living room with dinner consisting of fish and nattō. Volg likes the fish, however, he was surprised by how sticky the nattō is, which Hiroko apologises and gives him tea. The atmosphere makes Volg remember his mother. Volg asks Ippo if he knows anyone in America, as he does not know anyone there, however, Ippo doesn't either, but is sure that Fujii or Kamogawa will know. Hiroko offers for Volg to stay at her home until he knows where he is going. Outside, Ippo hits a tire with a hammer as he explains to Volg that he does this every night 300 times after learning the exercise from an acquaintance. Ippo asks Volg if he can spar with him since he said that he would counter the Dempsey Roll, however, Volg declined, as he is not the same as when he was called the "White Fang".
