Details[]
- Title Page Character(s): Masahiko Umezawa, Ippo Makunouchi, Dankichi Hama
Summary[]
Ippo informs Umezawa that Volg is going to go to America, where he will meet Kamogawa's friend and world class trainer, Dankichi. Pumped up, Volg has been training like a boxer before a match, doing roadwork and hitting the mitts. At the Kamogawa gym, as Aoki and Kimura watches Volg train, they are shocked that Ippo won against the in-fighter Volg, however, Takamura points out that the real way Volg fights isn't as an in-fighter, but a technical fighter. While Aoki and Kimura thinks that Takamura is lying, Kamogawa adds that if Volg fought how he usually fights, even Date would probably have lost, however, the reason for his sudden switch to the in-fighter type was to earn a reputation in the foreign country, since point wins can be seen as boring. Kamogawa believes Dankichi is going to receive the most boring subject since there isn't anything to teach Volg. Later, Hiroko goes to where Volg is doing his roadwork since dinner is ready. She tells him how Ippo was mentioning how Volg is training more than him, which Volg denies, as Ippo's training is impossible for just any boxer to follow, thinking that he can't win against him. When Ippo approaches Volg and Hiroko, he races with Volg to his house. After Ippo beats Volg in the race, Volg tells him that he has a request to ask of him. The next day at the Kamogawa gym, Aoki, Kimura, and Itagaki arrive as they were called by Volg to come, and are surprised to see Takamura and Kamogawa as well. The trio become even more shocked when they see Ippo and Volg standing in the ring about to spar. Ippo asks Volg if he is sure he wants to spar with eight ounce gloves and no headgear, and Volg answers that he wants him to face him seriously. As the spar begins, Volg lands a White Fang, and Ippo lands a Gazelle Punch right after. Volg gains the upper hand while using his true technical style, not taking hits. In the third round, Volg, visibly beaten, loses his position as he has been running out of stamina throughout the sparring match.
