Dempsey Evolution is Round 477 of Jōji Morikawa's Hajime no Ippo manga series.
Details[]
- Techniques Introduced: Bullet
- Title Page Character(s): Ippo Makunouchi
Summary[]
Ippo figures out that in order to make the Dempsey Roll not easy to read is to change the rhythm. Practising doing so, Ippo feels pain in his legs and waist, but realises that this is why Kamogawa wants him to train his lower body to absorb the shock. Later outside the Kamogawa gym, Aoki, Kimura, and Itagaki notices the poster for Ippo's match against Sawamura and discuss how the odds are still against Ippo, as he is doing normal training without sparring even though it is two weeks before the match. Yamaguchi arrives at the gym, and Kamogawa tells her to perform an emergency check up on Ippo in the basement ring. Aoki, Kimura, and Itagaki follow and are shocked to see Ippo sitting down on the ring's canvas in pain. Yamaguchi performs the check up and reveals that too much strain was put on his knees and waist, warning that any more strain can be dangerous and may be an end to his athletic career. Aoki and Kimura asks Kamogawa what Ippo was doing, and Kamogawa claims that he was moving ahead and evolved the Dempsey Roll. While everyone is excited that there is hope for Ippo's victory, Yamaguchi disagrees, as the exchange will be how Ippo is feeling now. While Ippo is determined to use it despite the risks, Yamaguchi orders him to use it only twice, any further will risk prematurely ending his career. Ippo, however, is still determined to use it more than twice, not worried about the future and just not wanting to lose the match. At the Oniyaritome gym, as Sawamura spars, Karil tells Fujii how Sawamura is not just about counters, that he has a jab called "Bullet" and a lightning strike of a right. Since Sawamura's opponent is unable to attack and Sawamura's doesn't want to stop punching him, Karil stops him. Karil explains to Fujii how Sawamura is like a starved mad dog with this weight control session, predicting that Sawamura may lose due to a gruesome disqualification if he doesn't win.
