Summary

Itagaki asks Mashiba for a spar, Mashiba doesn't care who he is, only what his weight class and rank is. After Itagaki introduce himself as a featherweight about to be ranked, Mashiba tells him to leave as he doesn't know how to go easy on someone. Shinoda wants to leave since he thinks it is rude visiting there without warning, and fears Itagaki might get broken too. Itagaki tells Mashiba that he would actually prefer him not to go easy on him, but Mashiba still tells him to leave. When Itagaki talks about Kumi, Mashiba finally tells him to get in the ring, and when they are done, he wants Itagaki to tell him everything as payment. The Tōhō coach apologises in advance since he doesn't know how to hold back, but promises to stop him if he starts to get out of hand. Itagaki and Mashiba proceed to spar. That night, Ippo runs to Itagaki's house after he heard from Itagaki that he was badly hurt. Itagaki's father makes jokes about it, and takes him to see Itagaki. Ippo sees Itagaki with a swollen face. Itagaki and Ippo talk about the spar, and his plans for Makino. As Ippo leaves, Itagaki mentions he didn't come home empty handed, he got some results. Ippo stops by Iwata's Chinese Noodles and discusses it with Kimura and Takamura. Fujii visits Makino at the Sayama gym, and shows him his East Japan Rookie King Tournament article. Makino notes how small his article is compared to amateur elites in Itagaki and Imai. The Sayama coach mentions to Fujii about Makino's past when he won first won against Itagaki, and how other people view him. Makino views himself as an underdog. As Fujii is about to leave, Makino mentions that Ippo was also considered an underdog in his Rookie King Tournament, and thinks history will repeat itself with him. Mashiba complains to Kumi about her visiting Ippo, since he is the enemy, but Kumi disagrees with him. Kumi finds out that Itagaki's been talking to Mashiba about them. She also notices Mashiba now has a black eye.
