Summary

Itagaki thinks that Mr. Sakaguchi and Randy chickened out, but Ippo doesn't think so. While Mari thinks that Mr. Sakaguchi was annoying, Fujii believes that he made the right decision, as there is no need to have Randy fight a world ranker in a spar if they might face Ippo in an actual match. Itagaki tells Ippo, Mari, and Fujii that he didn't know how he went down and thinks that he is out-boxers' worst match up, believing that for an out-boxer to stand a chance, they would need a lot more experience than him, stating that it would have to be Miyata. However, Itagaki adds that Southpaws are rare and hard to get used to, and one almost never sees a Switch Hitter, so if one even comes up with a plan, there are no good options for a sparring partner. Itagaki adds that he doesn't think that Randy has always fought like he is now, betting that he used to be the type who crushes opponents at close range due to his power. Imai arrives with a beaten face and claims that Miyata can win. Itagaki laughs at Imai for getting beaten and not being able to hit Miyata. Itagaki learns from Imai how Miyata sparred with him and a Southpaw to get used to Randy's Switch Hitting style. Ippo and Shinoda leave the gym, while Imai plans to walk Itagaki to his house. Itagaki and Imai, acknowledging that there is always someone better than them, both agree that they will show Miyata and Randy one day. As Ippo and Shinoda walk away from the gym, Ippo thinks that Itagaki and Imai will become stronger, as he remembers that Miyata and him were knocked around as well before making it this far. Shinoda tells Ippo that if he is frustrated about not getting to spar, he can smack Aoki around a little, but Ippo claims that he will be fine. Ippo wishes to do something so that Itagaki and Imai doesn't catch up to him or leave him behind.
