Summary

Miyata's father tells Yanaoka about the most important moment of his life was about a year after he retired from boxing, he was out late drinking and walking at a park that was on the way to his house. He heard some strange sounds and begin following the direction of the noise. He was shocked to see Miyata shadow boxing with movements he learned from memory of his father's boxing. He asked Miyata to stop, but Miyata didn't want to forget his father's time as a champion, so he planned to practise in order to always remember. After Miyata showed his father the feint his father made to bait a left in order to throw a right straight, and claimed that he was able to see his father's movements as he was always watching at the ring side, the father wanted to watch his son as his last hope. Miyata's father tells Yanaoka how he believes Miyata's talent surpasses his own, which is why he wants to stay by his side to tell him to forget about his style and try to find his own. When Yanaoka mentions to Miyata's father that regardless of how he did it, he taught Miyata how to box, Miyata's father does not want to admit it and claims that Yanaoka must be drunk. Sleeping with Ippo at the Makunouchi Fishing Boat, Sendō argues with him that he won the spar against Miyata, however, Ippo disagrees.
