Details[]
- Title Page Character(s): Randy Boy Junior, Ichirō Miyata, Miyata Senior
Summary[]
As the first round has ended, Miyata and Randy go to their corners. At Randy's corner, Randy does not want to take it easy like Mr. Sakaguchi wants to by waiting for Miyata to slow down in the later rounds, as he wants to prove that he can take on an opponent with world class speed now, since if he can't prove it now, he doubts that he can do it later. At Miyata's corner, after hearing his father tell him to stay focused, Miyata believes that he has been getting more focused and wonders if he can pull off his ideal punch that he has been chasing after since he was a child. Sendō notes that Randy winning or losing will depend on his guts, as there is not much Randy can do with Miyata's speed, and if he gets angry and throws punches with more power, Miyata's counter will gain more power if it connects. Sawamura explains to Ippo, Itagaki, and Sendō that there are counters that don't utilise the opponent's strength at all, such as when the opponent throws a punch out, the counter user can dodge with a sway and then hit the opponent with a counter while their arm is still extended out. Sawamura notes that it doesn't matter how powerful a punch is if one can dodge it when they see it coming, or if it does hit, they can grit their teeth and brace for impact, and one can probably handle it if they know what they are dealing with. However, Sawamura claims that what one can't deal with is a punch they can't see coming, especially when it is a punch one isn't even conscious of. He explains that it doesn't even have to be a strong punch to knock someone down because the opponent won't see it coming. Itagaki believes he understands what Sawamura is saying, as when someone is on the attack or is throwing a punch that they are sure will connect, they don't think about their defence that much, so they don't even imagine themselves getting hit so they don't see it coming. Sawamura states that even if someone gets lucky enough to pull it off in practice, trying to repeat it in a match would be nearly impossible. Sawamura explains that someone has to be strong enough to control their opponent and set it up, then they would need the skills to be able to accurately target a vital point in a mere instant, and they would also need insight to be able to read their opponent's punches as well. He believes that if someone were to be able to perfect a punch like that, they would be unstoppable. The second round begins, and Miyata counters against Randy's first punch of the round. Miyata notices that Randy saw the counter coming, so he plans to throw a punch that Randy can't see.
