Summary

As Wally is downed, the referee starts the count. Wally hasn't been downed before, so he is confused as to what he is supposed to do now. Miguel shouts to Wally to stand up and take a fighting pose to let the referee know that he can fight. Wally immediately stands up, but Miguel tells him to sit back down until the count of eight to recover some of the damage. Wally sits back down while thinking that Miguel should make up his mind, and is amazed that a graze sent him down. Ippo knows Wally will get back up and was surprised by the lucky punch he hit him with, having felt the impact on his pinky finger. Wally waits to get up until the referee was starting to say "ten". As the match resumes, Wally checks his stance again as Ippo is rushing towards him with the Peek-a-Boo Style. Miguel shouts "freedom" at Wally, who then enters the Freedom Style, which has no guard. Miguel thinks of how he set up Wally's match against Ippo as a learning experience, but Ippo is too strong and Wally will lose before he learns anything, so he has given up on trying to win using boxing. Ippo gets close to Wally and throws a left hook, however, Wally dodges it with a sway. From the swayed position, Wally launches a left uppercut that hits the tip of Ippo's jaw. Ippo stays standing, shocking Wally as he fell from the same punch. Ippo throws left and right hooks that Wally dodges. Miguel thinks of how the traditional boxing style he was using before was something he taught him, believing that mixing boxing and wildness is the ideal that is necessary to successfully take the world title. Takamura notes how Wally is a lot like Hawk, thinking that Miguel must have a thing for boxers like that, but believe Wally's speed will be different since he is in a lighter weight class than Hawk. Miguel thinks of how he was looking for a boxer that can surpass Kamogawa's Takamura, and believes Wally is the one, but notes that Wally is still inexperienced with boxing, and since fighting Ippo in his inexperienced state was too much, he wishes to see how far Wally can go using his raw talent alone. Wally sways to avoid Ippo's right straight, and then from that position, launches a right uppercut that hits Ippo. Ippo thinks that this is the true form of Wally he wanted to see.
