Summary

While at working at the boat, Ippo asks Miyazaki if he knows of any doctor who could help him. Miyazaki gives him the address of Tomoko Yamaguchi. Ippo goes to see the doctor, who tells him that the reason for his injuries is the fact that the muscles of his arms can not withstand the punching power he has. She tells him that he will be able to fight in the next match but also warns him about the dangers of it. In order to able to punch full power without getting injured, Ippo must develop his shoulder muscles. Back at the Naniwa Boxing Club, Sendō is hitting the mitts with Yanaoka, when he receives a package from Ippo. In the box, along with the souvenirs he left, there is a note from Ippo saying that he might be able to make it to the All Japan Rookie King Tournament. Excited by the news, Sendō resumes training.

Trivia

• The souvenirs Takeshi Sendō got from Tokyo were a Kaminarimon (雷門, meaning "Thunder Gate") speciality (名物) Chinese lantern Dango and a box of spot-billed duck Manjū (かるがも まんじゅう).
• The chapters title, "Super Doctor", is a reference to another manga series, Super Doctor K (スーパードクターK), by Kazuo Mafune that was also published in Weekly Shōnen Magazine from Issue 17, 1988 to issue 42, 1996.
  • It is about a doctor, Kazuya Saijō, with exceptional skill, who graduated from a top-tier, high profile medical college. Instead of working in a hospital or running his own clinic, he prefers to live his life wandering around to treating people in needs of help.
  • There is a similar chapter title in Round 293, but as "Super Doctor S", when Kazuki Sanada is introduced.
  • Jōji Morikawa mentioned in an interview that he sometimes helped Kazuo when he started out as a mangaka. He is friends with Morikawa and sent a tribute drawing when the series reached Round 1000.
