A boxing coach (コーチ, kōchi) is a position where an individual instructs and trains the boxers, including boxers trained under another trainer in a gym. A coach also is able to help the gym manager in decisions for boxers and business. When a coach's boxer is fighting in an official match or a spar, the coach becomes their chief second.
When a boxer that is trained under a different trainer is in the ring, the coach acts as a separate second for the boxer. A coach can throw a towel into the ring in order to immediately stop the match if the coach feels their boxer is seriously injured.
