The Cross Counter (クロス・カウンター, Kurosu Kauntā) is a counter punch delivered via a left or right straight.

Usage[]

The counter is performed on an incoming left or right jab or straight. When either are coming, the counter-puncher throws their own right or left straight from under their opponent's left or right throw while simultaneously performing a head slip. It is more difficult to perform the counter on a straight since the head slip cannot be performed. Ideally the user should loop their right or left arm over a left or right jab.

Ichirō Miyata tends to put his weight into the punch with a big step-in. He has even devised a version where he lunges forward. Ryūhei Sawamura does not step in, but instead hits the opponent before their punch is fully in motion. Wally is able to use the counter with his left by doing a head slip down and then throwing a left straight from under their opponent's left throw.[1]

It is a well-timed punch usually stunning the opponent however is throw at such an awkward angle if the opponent were to lean back, it would allow for a perfect right uppercut.
