Details[]
- Locations Introduced: Jōnan University Training Camp
Summary[]
Ippo leaves the Makunouchi Fishing Boat after telling Hiroko goodbye. While leaving, Ippo does shadowboxing, which a girl sees him and looks down as she is reminded about boxing. Riding a train to the beach, Ippo, Takamura, Aoki, and Kimura are excited. After arriving at the beach, Takamura, Aoki and Kimura start looking at girls while Ippo carries their luggage. When they get in the cabin to change their clothes, Ippo notices the luggage's contents (plastic dolphin and other sea gears) and realises they are there to play. All four boxers get into their swimming trunks and goes out to the beach. Ippo, who is sleeping while the trio goes playing, has a dream where he sees Kamogawa yelling at him, and then he sees Hayami punching him. Ippo loses his balance and drops, but then sees Miyata as he looks down on him. Ippo wakes up out of breath, and realises he needs training. When the trio returns, they start running, but Ippo realises how hard it is to run in the sand and can not figure out the timing for "dashing" and "jogging" until he realises they are running from girl to girl, which does not surprise him. After everyone is finished with their roadwork, the group walks to the training camp building, with Ippo carrying the luggage. That same night, they start shadowboxing (exhausting the already tired Ippo). Since Ippo falls asleep before his seniors, Aoki and Kimura tie him in the futon. Takamura tells them to be quiet but suddenly gives Ippo a suplex and they go to bed, with Ippo most likely knocked out. The next day, Ippo spars with Kimura but is unable to touch him, Takamura witnessing this, states that Ippo will lose against Hayami for a simple reason, and proceeds to remove his shoes. Takamura points to his toes, stating that they are very important for a boxer, since to shift his body, he must rely on his toes. He explains that this is also the reason that Ippo can not keep up with the group. After that, Ippo and Kimura begin a training session involving tennis balls to improve Ippo's strength. After days of training, Ippo's toes are stronger due to tennis ball training. He starts to catch up to Aoki with their road work, but Aoki throws sand in Ippo's eyes to stop him. Next, Ippo trains with Kimura and catches him with his sharp turns. After they are done with Takamura's shadowboxing session, they go to the beach to light fireworks. They call the biggest one "Ippo Fireworks" (reference to Ippo's penis), but it does not work, which prompts Takamura to kick it. They talk about their goals, with Aoki and Kimura aiming for the Japanese title and Takamura saying that is just a stepping stone for him, as he is aiming for the world. Seeing them motivated, Ippo promises to win the Rookie King Tournament. As they look at the fireworks with their goals in mind, the "Ippo Fireworks" fires at them, striking Aoki on the back as the others run.
