The Threat of Shotgun is Round 20 of the Hajime no Ippo anime, which is the adaptation of Jōji Morikawa's Hajime no Ippo series.

Summary[]
As Takamura gets up, he lures Yajima in, only to catch him with a brutal uppercut that shatters his jaw. After that, he unleashes a devastating combination on Yajima, the latter attempts the same counter he did at the beginning of the match. However, Takamura easily dodges this and continues his combinations overwhelming his opponent, who at one point begins to fall, but is stopped and sent back up by an uppercut. When Yajima finally falls, the referee does not count, and instead declares Takamura the new champion. Later that night, Ippo and Takamura walk home and reflect on their goals. Takamura still has lingering damage and nearly falls, helping Ippo realise how difficult it is to reach the top. Takamura who is grateful to Ippo (even though he doesn't say it out loud) for cheering when he needed the most, encourages him to win the the tournament. At his school, Ippo has a meeting with his teacher about his future and career choices. Ippo tells him that he has no intention of entering college and explains to the sceptical teacher why he wants to be a boxer, until the teacher finally lets him go telling him that he will be there if he changes his mind. After school, Ippo sits by himself while reflecting on how fun boxing is. Kobashi, who is in the middle of roadwork, sees Ippo and approaches him. They both talk about how words can not explain boxing, and Kobashi tells him that he must defeat Hayami and win the tournament no matter what. Now motivated, as Kobashi leaves, Ippo looks forward to his next match. Ippo studies Hayami's recent match with Kamogawa. Thinking that as an in-fighter, he would have the advantage, Ippo is proven wrong as Hayami knocks out his opponent after toying with him for three rounds. Realising that in-fighting will not be enough, they begin training with a combination of extensive roadwork and dodging exercises in order to exhaust Hayami by making him miss the shots of his "Shotgun". Later that night, Ippo, along with Kimura and Takamura are eating at the Iwata's Chinese Noodles where Aoki works. They begin talking about Hayami and Aoki's impending match, leading to the conclusion that anyone who fights before Aoki, should not be feared. After wishing Aoki good luck, Ippo goes to the stands where Hayami's cheering squad greets him as he enters (annoying Kimura and Takamura). Hayami's opponent, Kazuhito Yasukawa, whose speed and technique are praised since his high school days, appear to have the upper hand, but eventually falls victim to the Shotgun and loses the fight. Ippo petrified by this, realises he needs to improve even more.
