Lallapallooza is Round 72 of the Hajime no Ippo anime, which is the adaptation of Jōji Morikawa's Hajime no Ippo series.
Summary[]
Ippo's Dempsey Roll sent Sendō to the canvas, leaving the champion's cheering squad in stunned silence, and the challenger's excited and louder than ever. Yanaoka yells at Sendō to get up and not waste twenty-one months of hard work, while Ippo waits at a neutral corner. At the count of six, Sendō reacts, stands up, and grabs on the referee, who he threatens to kill unless he stops the count that is now at eight. The referee gives the signal to continue, and Ippo rushes with another Dempsey Roll, Sendō, not knowing what to do, attacks, but is caught by a punch. He is then sent to the ropes, where he attempts to counter once more, but is hit again by the challenger's Sunday punch. As Sendō is bouncing against the ropes from Ippo's attack, he appears to fall, but grabs on the ropes and delivers a powerful blow while Ippo stops thinking the down is decided. Despite having blocked the punch, Ippo is sent back and his nose begins to bleed, causing him to note to himself how incredible Sendō's power is. After only thirty seconds into the first round, both Ippo and Sendō are bloodied, with the latter visibly damaged. Kamogawa urges Ippo to finish the fight before Sendō recovers. Hearing this, Ippo sets a third Dempsey Roll in motion, but Sendō regains control over his legs and dashes forward, successfully stopping Ippo's move before it gains full power. With a series of blows, Sendō pushes Ippo to the ropes, and breaks his guard with a Smash. As Sendō prepares to deliver another blow to the now unguarded challenger, the later realises he can not block, but notes to himself that he already expected it, so he throws a punch of his own. Both coaches urge them to keep the fight at close range, with Mari noting that at the current distance between them, Sendō has the advantage, and Fujii noting that any close and it will be Ippo's advantage. Both fighters spread their stances and begin throwing punches at each other, marking the beginning of a seemingly even exchange that neither of them plans to back away from. The exchange continues and the fighters are no longer blocking or dodging, they instead deliver hit after hit, as if testing who is more resistant. A hit makes Ippo lose momentum, but when Sendō goes after him, he is received by punch that sends him back as well. They continue throwing at each other until the referee breaks them up and marks the end of the first round.
In their respective corners, both seconds agree that Ippo had the lead at the beginning of the round due to sending Sendō down, but the latter had the slight advantage in the hitting exchange; it is assumed Ippo won the round by two points. Sendō also notes how he was drifting in and out of consciousness, while Ippo states that Sendō's new power can knock him out even if he blocks.
When the second round begins, they both approach the centre of the ring and resume the hitting exchange with the impacts of their punches causing dull sounds throughout Kōrakuen Hall. At the sight of the fighter's display of skill, the audience begins cheering even louder than before. Takamura however tells Aoki and Kimura not to get too exited, as he predicts the difference that will determine the winner of the exchange will soon be seen, and Ippo will lose. Aoki and Kimura are at first in disbelief, but are quickly shocked at the sight of Sendō slowly taking the pace and pushing back Ippo, who tells himself that somehow Sendō seems "bigger" now. Kamogawa reveals that the difference that gives Sendō the advantage in the exchange, is his larger body that can store more energy. Ippo begins to falter, and backs up, when he can no longer attack. Having no option but to block, Ippo protects himself, but begins to crumble under Sendō's pressure, as he receives more and more punches. Ippo covers his face in an attempt to not get knocked out, and takes a low stance, but Sendō takes an equally low stance and resumes his attack. As he receives the champion's devastating blows, Ippo wonders why he was looking forward to something like that. He begins to fall victim of fear as he notes that the punches are "killing" him. His waste drops after a damaging hit, but he manages to hold on to the ropes before the referee separates them and ends the second round.
Both fighters make their way to their respective corners, with Ippo clearly having more damage than Sendō. Yanaoka notes that hitting the guard was not a random act, but instead a psychological tactic. As Ippo barely manages to make it back to Kamogawa, the latter asks him how badly hurt he is, to which a shocked Ippo can not respond. After barely surviving the round, Ippo is told by Kamogawa, that Sendō will set the pace by landing hits regardless of his punches hitting the target or the guard, so in order to stop him, he must hit first. Meanwhile on the champion's corner, Yanaoka recognises the challenger's corner are in panic, and that the round was won by Sendō. Sendō tells himself he must finish it in the same round he was defeated the first time. As the third round begins, Ippo intended to go after Sendō and be the first to attack but finds himself frozen in the middle of his approach.
