Masahiko Harada (原田 雅彦) , better known as Fighting Harada, is a former world boxing champion in the Flyweight and Bantamweight divisions, and also challenged for the Featherweight title twice. He is currently the president of the Japanese boxing association. Harada was arguably one of Japan's most popular boxers; his fame reached international status. Harada was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1995. In 2002, he was ranked as the 32nd greatest boxer of the past 80 years by Ring magazine.

- In Round 4, after Makunouchi Ippo's spar against Miyata Ichirō, Yagi Haruhiko was impressed by Ippo's determination. Kamogawa Genji commented that attitude boxers don't sell well. However boxers like Fighting Harada, Masao Ohba, Hiroyuki Ebihara, and Koichi Wajima did. He added the old boxers despite being beaten and beaten, they still stood up again and again, because of that their dreams were born. Kamogawa then accepted Ippo as a member of the Kamogawa Boxing Gym.
- In Round 27, Aoki Masaru pointed out that boxers like Fighting Harada, Watanabe Jirō, and Muguruma Takuya have all been victors of the All Japan Rookie King Tournament. The Rookie King Tournament is a gateway for champions.

- The match Kamogawa watched in May 18th, 1965 was Éder Jofre vs Masahiko "Fighting" Harada, where his streak as an undefeated fighter was broken when he lost to "Fighting Harada" by a controversial fifteen-round split decision in Nagoya, Japan, to lose the world Bantamweight title. Harada was the only fighter ever to defeat Jofre as a professional.
