The Secret Behind Holding Mitts is Round 1317 of Morikawa Jouji's Hajime no Ippo manga series.
Details[]
- Title Page Character(s): Makunouchi Ippo
Summary[]
At the Kamogawa gym, while Ippo does mitt practise with Taihei while using his numbering system, Ippo mistakenly blocks a six (right hook) like a three (left hook), causing the mitt to hit his face and his nose to bleed. As Taihei apologises, Shinoda mentions that he has no need to apologise as it was Ippo's fault for catching it wrong. Aoki points out that Ippo was too close to Taihei, making it hard for Ippo to dodge and Taihei to hit. Itagaki tells Kintarō how it is more difficult for in-fighters to hold mitts than out-boxers, as out-boxers already rely on rhythm and distance, making it easier to catch punches if one also was already good at seeing and dodging punches when they were active boxers. As Itagaki tries to use Shinoda, who is mitt practising with Kimura as an example of a veteran in mitt practising, Shinoda gets hit in the face when he laughs at Kimura's Kappa hairstyle when his wig fell off. Takamura, who is hitting Kamogawa's mitts, tells Kimura and Shinoda to get out of the ring if they want to be comedians. Takamura continues hitting Kamogawa's mitts as Ippo notices that there is something different.
