The Frog Punch (カエルパンチ, Kaeru Panchi) is a jumping uppercut used by Aoki Masaru as a finishing punch.
Usage[]
Aoki’s Frog Punch involves ducking under an opponent and then lunging upwards with a powerful uppercut, mimicking the leap of a frog. This punch is often used as a follow-up after the Look Away, surprising opponents with the added momentum from the jump. The Frog Punch is in fact a dangerous technique, as the momentum and the motion of the punch adds tremendous value to the punch.
Despite its effectiveness, the Frog Punch has several weaknesses. It is only useful at close range and the wind-up is fairly obvious to anyone, making it easier to anticipate. The trajectory of the punch is also predictable, which makes it easy for an opponent to counter.
Compared to the Gazelle Punch, which also uses jumping momentum but with better reach and faster execution, the Frog Punch is more risky. If it misses, the user is entirely vulnerable, making it a high-risk, high-reward move that requires precise timing and distractions.
Variations[]
Bell Horn Frog Punch[]
A variation of the Frog Punch where Aoki ducks for a longer period of time. However, it is possible to get points deducted if he waits too long.
Trivia[]
- Under most boxing regulations, ducking below the opponent's waist is illegal and will result in a penalty if enforced.
