Hajime no Ippo: ALL☆STARS (はじめの一歩 ALL☆STARS), also known as Victorious Boxers 2: Fighting Spirit in North America and Europe is the third instalment of the Hajime no Ippo series on the Sony PlayStation 2. The game is based on the manga series.

Introduction[]

Hajime no Ippo: ALL☆STARS is a boxing game based on the manga Hajime no Ippo. It holds 81 playable characters from the manga, such as Ippo himself, Ippo's coach both young and old, the bear Takamura fights, as well as any other character that was in the manga up until Takamura's match with David Eagle. You also get to face most of these characters in the Story Mode, which features almost every match from the manga up until, again, Takamura's match with David Eagle.

The controls allows jabs, straights, hooks and uppercuts to be thrown at the enemy, and swaying and dodging is done by holding down one button while steering the character. The characters with special attacks are equipped with these and the specials are thrown by holding down a button and pressing a corresponding punch button, but watch your stamina or you'll be too slow to hit your opponent.

Game Play[]

Story Mode - The story mode is a single player mode that follows the boxing careers of the main characters from the manga/anime series. There are three different difficulty settings: easy, normal, or hard.

Exhibition Mode - The exhibition mode is a multi player versus mode where players can compete against each other. Initially, only a small number of characters are available, but more characters become available by playing through the story mode. Players can adjust the number of rounds, knockdowns, and the style of the count for the match. Players can also adjust a character's level of power, speed, and stamina.

Tournament Mode - Player(s) can compete in tournament style gameplay with either 4, 8, or 16 fighters

Trivia[]

  • In its English release, it is the second game to release outside of Japan for the PlayStation 2 and is considered a sequel to Victorious Boxers: Ippo's Road to Glory due to it being called Victorious Boxers 2: Fighting Spirit. In Japan, it is actually the third game in the series to be released on the PlayStation 2. Because of this, it is sometimes confused with the actual second Japanese game, Hajime no Ippo 2: Victorious Road (はじめの一歩2 VICTORIOUS ROAD).
