Ippo's teacher (先生一歩, Sensei Ippo) is a staff member who is in charge of advising the students of the Zōjirushi Private High School about career choices.

Rookie King Tournament: Finals Arc[]
The teacher asking Ippo about going to college.
He first tried to convince Ippo Makunouchi of going to college since he had good grades. Upon hearing that Ippo became a boxer, he was very doubtful, as he had personally seen Masahiko Umezawa, Takemura, and Matsuda bullying Ippo. After many attempts of convincing Ippo to go to college, he finally gave up, but told him that he would be there if Ippo ever changed his mind. As soon as Ippo left the room, the teacher started shadowboxing, but was caught by Ippo in the act when he returned to get his bag.
Two Rookie Kings Arc[]
At the graduation, he told another teacher that when he heard about Ippo boxing, he encouraged him to do whatever he wanted because he was young.
Challenge for the Throne Arc[]

He attended Ippo's JBC featherweight title match against Eiji Date with Umezawa, Takemura, and Matsuda to cheer for Ippo's win. Over the course of the match, the teacher was surprised at how much Ippo had changed. In the end, Ippo lost the match.
Appearance[]
He is an elderly man with black hair and large eyebrows. He usually wears a grey business suit over a white dress shirt and a red tie. He also wears eyeglasses with a beige coloured frame.
Personality[]
He is a stern teacher who is serious about his student's his students' future, pushing them to go to college for higher education to help them in life. He attempted to make Ippo leave boxing, which he assumed Ippo was lying because he was poor, for college.
