William Harrison "Jack" Dempsey was an American professional boxer who competed from 1914 to 1927, and reigned as the world heavyweight champion from 1919 to 1926. A cultural icon of the 1920s, Dempsey's aggressive fighting style and exceptional punching power made him one of the most popular boxers in history.

Volume 37 Extra on Jack Dempsey
- In Round 213, during Makunouchi Ippo's comeback match against Ponchai Chuwatana. Ippo used the Dempsey Roll to win. Later Fujii Minoru mentions the history behind the Dempsey Roll to Umezawa Masahiko, where Jack Dempsey used it defeat larger opponents with it.
- Ippo continues to use the Dempsey Roll as the story goes on. However, Ippo continues to evolve it.
- In Volume 37, there was an extra page included with the volume on Jack Demsey.
Fuji Takeshi and Jack Dempsey
- In Round 420, Kamogawa Genji noted that the Dempsey Roll was a massively powerful technique where men like Jack Dempsey and Fuji Takeshi conqueror the world with such power, but he noted that it generally not used today.
- Yagi Haruhiko thought the Dempsey Roll was an extremely specialized technique, where in order to throw continuously throw full body punches, the boxer needs extremely powerful legs. So most boxers don't have the natural build to use it.
- Kamogawa believed it was a compatibility difference like with Janken, where the Dempsey Roll was that it is weak to counters with it simple left to right movement. The simple motion pattern make finding the correct timing very easy.
