Charles "Kid" McCoy was an American world champion boxer and early Hollywood actor. He is mainly known for using the Corkscrew Punch. McCoy was noted for his "corkscrew punch"–a blow delivered with a twisting of the wrist. According to McCoy, he learned the punch one evening while resting in someone's barn after a day of riding the rails. He noticed a cat strike at a ball of string and imitated its actions.

- In Round 121, during Makunouchi Ippo's match against Okita Keigo, Okita displayed the Corkscrew Blow in it. Kimura Tatsuya explained that during the 1890's, Kid McCoy created it. Kimura noted that Kid was famous for taking down heavyclass fighters as a welterclass. Kimura mentioned that Kid thought of it while watching a cat pull in a ball, but he pointed out that it is similar to how a bullet spirals out of a gun because the force pushing out and the torque that causes a huge impact.
