Second Step Arc[]
The manager revealing her shady ways to bring young employees in her store.
While working at the Márquez, she told Miyata how he is nice for taking in a stray cat, and asked why he can't keep it. After he explained that his apartment doesn't allow pets, she offered to take care of both the cat and him since her husband passed away. As Miyata expressed his desire to quit to go to a job with more flexible hours, she begged him to stay. As their shift went on, she offered to raise his wage, revealed to a customer, Kimura, that she pays Miyata a lot more than her other part-time employees as a way to reel him in, and insulted by a customer, Takamura.
Importance of the Support Role Arc[]
While working at the Márquez, Miyata asked her to help solve some middle school math problems that he received. When she looked at the math problems, she couldn't do it and made an obscene math joke back at him. As he took the page back, he called her useless, which only excited her. When a customer arrived at the counter, and acted hostile towards Miyata, she wanted him to apologise to Miyata for it. As the customer acted hostile to her in response, she got scared and hid behind Miyata. She mentioned to the customer that the money he gave to Miyata wasn't enough to cover his purchase since there was a sales tax. Miyata decided to call it even with the customer if he can solve the math problems, which he does. After the customer left, she believed that Miyata can't tell if the customer gave the correct answers or not.
