Makoto arrived to the Kōrakuen Hall for his East Japan Rookie King Tournament semi-finals match against Kyōsuke Imai. When their match began, Makoto felt confident as he swiftly dodged Imai's wide swings. After his guard was knocked away and he dodged a right hook, he showed signs of fear on his face. After two body blows, Makoto went down and the referee immediately ended the match, resulting in Makoto's loss.
