Seeking Heights Arc[]

Matsuura sparring with Ippo.
Matsuura and his coach arrived to the Kamogawa gym to spar with Makunouchi Ippo. After thanking Kamogawa Genji and Yagi Haruhiko they were impressed as they saw Takamura Mamoru, Aoki Masaru, Kimura Tatsuya, and Itagaki Manabu training. Matsuura excitedly greeted Ippo before they began sparring. During the spar, Matsuura repeatedly hit Ippo with left jabs until Ippo got close. When Ippo used a motion similar to the Dempsey Roll, where he was weaving vertically and horizontally, Matsuura's attacks began to miss. Matsuura was surprised that Ippo was able to attack from his low and twisted position with it as his block broke from a left uppercut. Matsuura proceeded to guard against Ippo's barrage of left and right hooks and uppercuts. When Ippo missed an uppercut and lost balance, Matsuura panicked and knocked him away with punches. As Ippo was about to approach him again, Matsuura's coach stopped the spar, since he didn't want his boxer to get injured. Matsuura thanked Ippo for the spar and left.
