Challenge for the Throne Arc[]
Megumi arriving for the group date.
When Megumi was invited to a group date arranged by Reiko and three other boxers, she arrived with the rest of the group.
Over the course of the date, Aoki, Kimura, Takamura, and Ippo competed against each other in bowling at the Rosa Bowl in order to find out which girl they would be walking home with, with the highest score being the first to pick. When the competition ended, Takamura picked Megumi.
The next day, while Takamura claims that after the others left, he simply went home early to prepare for the Champion Carnival and defend his title, Kamogawa showed him, Kimura and Ippo an article in Priday that showed how Takamura's date with Megumi really went. It showed that when he tried to force himself upon her, trying to take her to a love hotel, Megumi cried and ran away. Kamogawa, who branded Takamura the Lord of Perverts, gave permission for the article to be posted so that women like Megumi would run away from Takamura just from the sight of him.
Etymology[]
- The name Megumi is written in hiragana (めぐみ), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (恵 or 愛), it could possibly mean:
- 恵 - "favor, benefit".
- 愛 - "love, affection".
