The New Japan Coach (新日本会長, Shin Nihon Kaichō) is a non-recurring character in Hajime no Ippo.
He is the coach of the New Japan Boxing Gym, and the coach of Shigeta Akira.

Mountain Training Arc[]
Requesting for a spar against Ippo.
When his boxer, Shigeta Akira was scheduled to fight against the JBC featherweight champion Sendō Takeshi, he went to the Kamogawa Boxing Gym along with Shigeta to ask the Kamogawa Gym's coach, Kamogawa Genji for a spar against Makunouchi Ippo. Kamogawa agreed with the request, letting Shigeta fight against Ippo. After the spar, which Shigeta dominated in, the coach left the gym along with Shigeta.
Lallapallooza Arc[]
Shigeta's match against the champion Sendō began, however, despite having a strategy to counter the Smash, Sendō was faster than he was in previous video tapes, resulting in Shigeta losing in the third round. The result of Sendō defeating him caused Shigeta to develop Punch Eye, something he takes responsibility for due to not throwing the towel.
Appearance[]
He has an appearance of an older man with black hair that is slicked back at the front. His face has wrinkles due to his old age. He is seen wearing a patterned button-up shirt and, at the ring a light coloured Dynamite Glove shirt.
Personality[]
He is portrayed as someone with confidence and trust in his plans. When Shigeta developed Punch Eye as a result of fighting Sendō, he felt remorse and took full responsibility for not throwing the towel and ending the match sooner.
