Pekitter (ペケッター, Pekettā)[1] is a social media site in Hajime no Ippo.

Pekitter is a social media site where users can post anything with text, emojis, and images, as well as reply to others' posts, and follow other users. A post is called a "pekeet" (ペケート, Pekēto). A user has a username, handle, and a profile picture. A post that is controversial can cause other users to "flame" the poster, and if the poster argues with them, it can start a "flame war."

Mukky posting flame bait on Pekitter

Mukky posting flame bait on Pekitter.

After Manabu Itagaki posted a pekeet containing a picture of Ryō Mashiba getting hit in a spar while claiming that Mashiba is in top form for his upcoming world title match against Marcus Rosario, it resulted in him going viral and getting flamed. The morning after he posted the pekeet, Itagaki went from one-hundred followers to over one-thousand. Itagaki began posting replies that stirred up more drama, creating a flame war between Itagaki and the other users. As requested by Masaru Aoki, Hiroshi Kizakura and Isamu Akamatsu investigated the flame war, and revealed to the Kamogawa gym members that the user "Yatta☆Ra☆Mukky @mukky" is the one that keeps the flame war going when it started to die down. Isamu and Hiroshi began cracking the code in Yatta☆Ra☆Mukky's name and concluded their investigation that Tatsuya Kimura was the culprit. As Aoki and Itagaki yelled at Kimura, the latter ran away, claiming he was just jealous that Itagaki got so many new followers and wanted attention.

That night, Mamoru Takamura decided to make a Pekitter account because he believed everyone wanted to know about his daily life. After posting his first pekeet, he got permanently banned due to posting a NSFW image.

Trivia[]

  • Pekitter (ペケッター, Pekettā) is based on "X" formerly called "Twitter". The "ペケ" (Peke) means the "x" mark, while also meaning "incorrect" or "wrong".
  • Haruhiko Yagi's username "Ban Goat" is a pun, as the Japanese romanization for "goat" (山羊) is "Yagi".
  • The user "Kazu Shimamoto-ni" (島本和兄) is a reference to Kazuhiko Shimamoto, who is one of the illustrators for the G Gundam manga series that Jōji Morikawa is a fan of.
