Anyone notice that in 1996, a lot of boxers in the manga retired? Sawamura and Take Keiichi come to mind most easily but there's at least two others.
Jimmy Sisphar also (if our articles are true).

Guess when I re-read\watch Ippo I got to watch for that kind of thing. If you want me to check anything ask, if I remember why I'm watching I will do it, but I'm going to watch\read Hajime no Ippo slowly this time, got to study, "exams are comming". GoT FTW.
it's kind of bizarre that in 23 years of writing Hajime no Ippo ( Am I right? ) In the story only 7 have passed ( It's 1997 now right? )
It's 24 years since Ippo first came out in 1989 iirc. Time passed a lot quicker around the Rookie Kings, then slowed down after Ippo became champ, probably because each of his matches started taking up more chapters.
Oh man, re-reading Ippo from the top sounds awesome. Enjoy!
