This year's 34th issue Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine is revealing on Wednesday that a third season of the television anime adaptation of George Morikawa's Hajime no Ippo (Fighting Spirit) manga has been green-lit. The anime is scheduled to begin airing this fall in Japan. The announcement image reads, “Ippo fights the formidable enemy, Sawamura! Dempsey breaks down!?”
Morikawa's long-running manga has spawned two television anime series, an OVA, and a TV special. Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger, the second season of the anime, aired in 2009. Geneon Entertainment (USA) released the first television series on DVD in North America. Kodansha is publishing the manga in Japan, and will release the 104th compiled volume next month.

And here's something from the mangastream blog on the topic: http://mangastream.com/blog/12

From the looks of it, the new season will cover all the way up to Takamura vs Eagle and, of course, include Ippo vs Sawamura. There's no word on how long exactly it will run though, but those two fights are worth it alone and it's gonna be awesome, I just know it.

There is only one thing that kind of worries me; and that is whether the new voice actor will do coach Kamogawa justice. If you haven't heard, the old voice actor, Kenji Utsumi, died of cancer this past June, aged 75.

Yes, I just learned about Utsumi's passing just the other day and updated the page on the wiki. Sad news indeed... But let's not get bogged down in it. The series Utsumi lent his talents to is getting a 3rd season!

So the new season should cover up to the David Eagle match, which means we'll get to see Ippo vs. Shimabukuro Iwao and Ippo vs. Sawamura. Since the latter is one of my top 5 favorite fights in the series, I am stoked as F for this season. There'll also be something or other with Itagaki or some such... Who cares!

Let the rejoicing commence!

Edit by Iloveflash (talk) 03:35, August 8, 2013 (UTC): The new season is called "Hajime no Ippo: Rising!" Read about it here: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-08-03/hajime-no-ippo-3rd-season-titled-rising

George Morikawa's original long-running manga has spawned two television anime series, an original video anime project, and a TV special. Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger, the second season of the anime, aired in 2009. NTV will stream both series for free in Japan from August 3 until September. Hajime no Ippo Rising will premiere this fall.
