If you don't feel like reading everything, the important parts are highlighted in bold. |
Wikia sent out a newsletter some time ago informing us that the mobile market is growing really fast, and that communities should start making the effort to remodel their wikis for better viewing on mobile devices.
For the most part Wiki Ippo looks the same on my smartphone. The adjustments made on the mobile site to things like the front page and table of contents are welcome and maintain a smooth flow for the reader. The only issue I can see is that the character infoboxes take up the entire top of the page, so you have to scroll down quite a bit to get to the opening summary of the character. To remedy this I've started moving the infoboxes below the opening synopsis. This means that when you load the page on a mobile device, the first thing you will see is the synopsis for the character, followed by the picture in the infobox of the character, followed by their statistics, ending with a collapsed table of contents. It looks a bit bizarre to see the infobox not at the top of the page, but I surmise we will all get used to it given time.
The infobox situation is a dire one. Whether viewed from mobile or desktop, they take up a crapload of space. I attribute the desktop issue to Wikia only allowing the left 75% of the page to be filled with content, while the right 25% starts with the "recent wiki activity" and "photos" template boxes, followed by pure white space underneath. In my fair opinion, that's a completely asinine way to display content. The end result is that no matter where you place the infobox, they take up a huge amount of space near the middle of the screen.
I have some ideas for splitting the infobox into two parts: one to be displayed under the synopsis, and another to be displayed beside the "Fighting Style" section of the character's page. The top one would feature a picture of the character outside of boxing gear, the bottom a picture of them in boxing gear--unless only one image is provided, in which case it is highly likely one of the templates won't be needed at all.
Toss in any objections in the comment section, otherwise I'm going ahead with these changes.
